Soul is the vital core of one’s individual self. It is unique to each person, and deeper within than one’s personality. Spirit permeates and animates everything in the universe and yet transcends all. The Spirit is the aspect that all things and all persons have in common. One’s Soul is the agent for the Spirit. Both the Soul and the Spirit are sacred. Both add beauty, mystery, and meaning to our lives. Both transpersonal, the Spirit and the Soul are other than our selves and beyond our control.
We are called to serve the Soul and to unite with the Spirit, the former being your own Cove in the Ocean of Spirit and the latter being the Source of all Creation.
We will use the term “ascend” to describe how we draw closer to the Spirit and the term “descend” to describe how we draw closer to the Soul. These two directions mark the two realms of spirituality.
Earthly mysteries and Nature are associated with the realm of the Soul, heavenly bliss with the realm of the Spirit.
Remember these distinctions for they will come up often in the waypoints that follow.
