The Heartwood Path takes you on a heroic journey and it is based on one main axiom, one grand guiding tenet, the “PIERCE Principle," which is:

“Being happy and saving the earth requires an achievable high level of spiritual maturity.”

Whether one considers it a universal truth, a code of conduct, or a mere literary thesis statement, the PIERCE Principle is the heading atop the main signpost at the outset of the Heartwood Path.

Doubling as a credit line and an acronym, the PIERCE Principle contains all the main aspects of the Heartwood Path described in this series of courses:

P stands for the understanding of universal Principles and the Pondering of the origin and structure of integrity.

I stands for the contention that saving the planet and “perfecting” the person requires both the process of Individuation—which leads to becoming an individual—and the process of Integration –which leads to the formation of a Greater Self that includes the planet.

E stands for protecting the Environment.

R reminds one of the need to Ripen one’s self into a state of spiritual maturity so that one can become a person with positive traits and, if one has a life partner, to Reconcile self and other, through a process described in a separate course, The Heartwood Path For Couples.

C also has multiple meanings: it stands for developing enough Care to spur one into action as an individual or as a life Coach and, as described in a separate course, for Collaborating with others in ways that aid efforts (for oneself and others) to be Compassionate towards all sentient beings (those capable of perceiving) without Crashing.

E stands for the need to persevere in the above-stated efforts through the Enchantment one finds with Everyday life (enchantment defined as an opening of the mind to the wonder, sacredness, and magic of existence).

The PIERCE Principle:

“Being uncommonly happy and working effectively to help save the earth requires an achievable high level of spiritual maturity.”

All statements made in this series of courses derive from the fundamental truth of the PIERCE Principle. This tenet is tantamount. Whether one considers it a universal truth, a code of conduct, or a mere literary thesis statement, the PIERCE Principle is, metaphorically speaking, the heading atop the main signpost at the outset of the Heartwood Path.

Besides promoting environmental well-being, the Heartwood Path leads to emotional fitness.

It tells you, the pilgrim at the beginning of your pilgrimage down the Heartwood Path, where you are about to go and; if there is later confusion, reminds you of why you have embarked on this particular heroic journey. We humans tend to get lost on our journeys through life because of the elaborate means we have created to give ourselves misconceptions.

To assess your emotional fitness, commune with nature and determine if you have control over things that happen, if you respond to stress in ways that make things worse, if work is the most important aspect of your life, if you adjust well to changes, and if you keep your feelings to yourself.

Often these misconceptions lead to the bad things.  Take a moment to assess your own emotional fitness during negative events in the following activity.
