Key Assertions That Help Summarize This Article:

When tempted to seek high positions in the limelight remember that a mighty river gets its power by being lower than other bodies of water.

Humility and darkness: both unveil the radiance of Heaven.

Adopt Whitfield, Whitfield, Park, and Prevatt’s twelve characteristics of humility: Openness, Attitude Of Don’t Know, Curiosity, Innocence, Childlike Nature, Spontaneity, Spirituality, Tolerance, Patience, Integrity, Detachment, and Letting Go (Whitfield, 2006).

A mighty river gets its power by being lower than other bodies of water. Remember this when tempted to seek high positions in the limelight. Avoid seeking credit for your good works.

Put these ideas regarding humility and confidentiality to work for you by doing the following practice: Take the time to do nothing but be silent. Spend extended time in Nature. Take a yoga class. Make incognito contributions. And about the following statement: Humility and darkness: both unveil the radiance of Heaven.

Especially at first, describe your visions confidentially in a private journal. This will keep others from giving you doubt about your dreams. Before bringing your dreams into the realm of the seen, use prayer to make conscious contact with The Absolute Spirit in the invisible world. This will help set you on the path of righteousness. Write down your private dream(s).

To Peace…

HumaNatureConnect Activity

Staying Humble

For this activity, log your answers in your journal to the following questions, inspired by the book The Power of Humility, by Whitfield, Whitfield, Park, and Prevatt:

  • Openness: How, if at all, am I open to learning, growth, and experience?

  • Attitude Of Don’t Know: How do I, if at all, admit to not knowing and thereby be open to all possibilities?

  • Curiosity: How do I, if at all, express my curiosity as a way to demonstrate acceptance over prejudice and rejection?

  • Innocence: How am I, if at all, innocent enough to produce peace with a person whom I am in conflict?

  • Childlike Nature: How do I, if at all, alleviate sin, guilt and shame by being childlike?

  • Spontaneity: How do I, if at all, live as my real self in the moment as a way to be intensely alive, dissolve unhappiness, and live with the flow of ease and joy?

  • Spirituality: How do I, if at all, step away from predetermined paths and follow my own personal path, recall my integrity, surrender to the moment full of solutions, free myself from attachments, and find the fullness of inner peace?

  • Tolerance: How do I, if at all, respect the beliefs, preferences, or practices of others (and myself)?

  • Patience: How do I, if at all, pray for what I need without demanding it right away?

  • Integrity: How am I, if at all, whole, perfect, authentic, appreciative and accepting?

  • Detachment: How do I, if at all, withdraw my emotional attachment––my desire, craving, and clinging––to a person, place, thing, or outcome while remaining a caring person?

  • Let Go: How do I, if at all, let go of accumulated baggage from past traumas, let go of the preeminence of the Ego, let go of attempting to fix those who do not want to be fixed, let go of the need to control, and letting go of treating others as I would not want to be treated myself?
