Rather than a ghost within, the Soul is simultaneously a place, a niche, and a function.

The Soul, being simultaneously a place, a niche, and a function, is not, as most people tend to articulate, a ghostly thing within that one possesses. You are in a place—the location that is your Soul, and you provide a function—the task of your soul. That place and function are not inside you. You are located in your Soul place and you do the tasks associated with your Soul purpose. When someone lives a life they can truly call their own, that soul-full life––hardly ethereal or unreal––is visible, public, and typically full of values, interests, and abilities.

When someone is living without a firm connection to their Soul they are out of their minds and out of place. They are unable to have a large conversation with the world. They cannot unfold their own richest story. I am not referring to their life’s history but to their own meaningful fable or truth-filled myth that puts them into a deep relationship with the world’s core structure—its hidden blueprint, which is, more or less, the same thing as Rupert Sheldrake’s “morphic field,” or David Bohm’s “implicate order,” or Buckminister Fuller’s “pattern integrity” or Robert Johnson’s “primal pattern” or Thomas Berry’s “primary, organizing, sustaining, guiding principle of a living being” (Plotkin, 2008, p. 52).

Procuring Happiness Through Environmental Health

For this activity, respond to the following statement:

“A positive perception of nature and its benefits promotes the adoption of behaviors that are in accord with sustainable development. Indeed, respect for the environment is based on an affective connection with nature, and thus contributes to human happiness” (Lambin, 2012, p. 160).

In your response to this quote, you may want to include a personal example of how you connect with nature in a way that increases your happiness.
