Key Assertions For This Substack:
You are an individual but you are not independent of the three opposing cosmic forces.
Understand the pull of the three opposing cosmic forces.
The three opposing forces are: 1) the pull to be singular against the pull to be plural, 2) the pull to be a formed thing against the pull to be formless, and 3) the pull to dissolve against the pull to evolve.
With these three forces working simultaneously, the Universe can be said to be differentiated into four realms, with each realm increasing in organizational depth over time (from the spirit-filled, formlessness of the Void, to the physical, to the living, to the mental, to the Soul, and to the Spirit again). The four realms of the universe are the same as those represented on the Four-leaf Model of Integrity: 1) the realm of the behaviors of formed individual entities understood best through science; 2) the realm of the physical fit of formed systems—organizations, businesses, bodies, ecosystems, galaxies, etc., also understood best through science, 3) the formless realm of the intentions of individual entities understood best through art; and 4) the formless realm of the morals and ethics of plural entities understood best through spirituality or religion. The third force—the pull to dissolve against the pull to add organizational depth—either adds depth or disintegration to each of the four realms.
The main point to carry away from this discussion is that as you work to facilitate your personal growth it is vitally important that you create both balance and depth. The balance comes into play as you make sure that the four realms—intentions, ethics, behaviors, and physical systems—are all considered and used. The depth comes into play when you add the layers of depth—physical, mental, and spiritual—to each of the realms. The spiritual level emerges from the physical level and mental levels and the mental level emerges from the physical level. Only when one transcends all layers—that is, as one becomes more integral (has more integrity) by including all layers of depth, can one properly show compassion for all sentient beings. The suggested goal for all eartHearts is to add more balance and more depth. In this way, life becomes good for yourself and others; but only as one overcomes the pulls to be singular (that is, individual only rather than both individual and integrated), the pull think of yourself only as a formed being with independent agency rather than also addressing the formless aspects of self such as being in relationship, and the pull to dissolve (to die unchanged) rather than to evolve (to grow in depth and to become balanced).
With all of these pulls working on you, you may have a sense that your own individual freedom is being modified and, in a sense, it is. You are an individual but you are not independent of the three opposing forces. You retain, however, the freedom of choosing your own, thoughts, perspectives, and behaviors. To increase this freedom, do the following activity.
