Move To Non-Duality
The step that needs to be taken at this point along the Heartwood Path is a step from a rung of personal development characterized by masculinity ––by which I mean, among other things, hyper-rationality, competition, and atomistic thinking (seeing everything as separate)–– to a rung characterized by femininity––, intuition, cooperation, and a focus on relationships. This contrast between masculinity and femininity has very little to do with femaleness and maleness. This step brings one to non-duality--the blending of you as a subject with your object of inquiry--but it ought to not mean that all parts are blended into a homogenous whole. There are still parts, just as there is also one whole and one individual self. The needed step leads to the realization of “self-in-relationship”—not an egoistic self that is merged with a separate other, but the one Self imbedded in a network of essential others.
We all know that men are like steel, they lose their worth when they lose their temper. Women are like telephones, they love to be held and talked to. The thinnest book I ever saw was on the subject of what men know about women. Whether you are a man or a woman, never marry for money. You will have to earn every penny. Have you ever seen a woman reading a map. They tend to turn it in the direction they are heading. My ex-wife always had the last word in every argument with her father. Whatever was said after that was just the beginning of the next argument. This relationship training ground is where I learned about the possibility of projecting past grievances on to other people. Which is worse? Trying to live up to superheroes, as many men do; or trying to live up to Barbie, as many women do.
If this is not a day when you prefer to spend time in nature without an agenda, do the following activity:
Moving To Non-Duality
HumaNatureConnect Activity: Moving To Non-Duality. With pen and journal in hand, go to an attractive natural area and, in a spirit of appreciation, look around you to find something that is attractive to you. Once you find an aspect of nature that is attractive to you continuously for at least ten seconds, use the optimal functioning you receive along with your continued attraction (which can be thought of as your consent to do this activity with the help of the attractive natural being) to answer the following question: How, if at all, can your act of blending you as the subject with your object of inquiry--that is, attaining a sense of non-duality--be aided through awareness (clear seeing, the mind, wisdom, the no-self, seeing through the self, insight, acknowledging reality, and reliance on the Seer) and how can your act of blending subject with object be aided by equanimity (calm abiding, the heart, compassion, the self, building up the self, bearing up to reality, and relying on the Mother or the Feminine)? What would be the positive or negative result of using awareness and equanimity to achieve such non-duality? Write something down even if you are dissatisfied with your ability to answer such a question. It will be interesting to compare your answer now to your answer after reading this book. To write out your answers, look for the table like the one below in your journal:
